When was the last time you did something in complete silence? Drove with the radio or iPod off? Made a meal and sat by yourself at the table without the TV on, or the iPad sitting in front of you, or the book open? When is the last time you went for a run to the sound of your breath, and nothing else? Does the thought of doing that feel uncomfortable for you?
Sometimes we need to eliminate the distractions and noise in our lives in order to hear the One who has something good and true to say to us. Are you listening? Do you want to do something about it? Try this: Set a period of time, maybe it’s one whole day, perhaps its daily for one week, maybe its a whole month….and listen. What noise can you eliminate from your life on a regular basis that will make room for a voice to become clear? What might come of this?
